The yearly rhythm

Five moments that come round every year. The festivals follow the lunar calendar, so they shift from year to year.

FEBRUARY

Spring Festival dinner
春節

The whole family gets together to see in the New Year with a big dinner at Sea Palace. Every four years, the new board is inaugurated there too.

APRIL

Ching Ming
清明節

Cleaning the graves and making offerings to the ancestors. Each household goes by itself, to the graves here in the Netherlands or to the cemetery in San Tin.

JULY

Family day out
for young and old

A day out with the whole family – a theme park, the beach or a boat trip. The destination is picked afresh every year; children come free.

SEPTEMBER

Mid-Autumn Festival
中秋節

The big family dinner at Sea Palace. Usually 200 to 300 people, from babies to relatives in their nineties.

OCTOBER

Chung Yeung
重陽節

The autumn counterpart of Ching Ming: back to the graves, offerings again. Here too, each household goes by itself.
